What is punk?
You might say it’s the music, or the fashion, or even a movement. The Stooges, The Sex Pistols, Black Flag and The Misfits. Bottlecaps on a belt, mohawks, big old stompy boots. Spikes and piercings, leather, and whatever the hell else you want to wear.
A penchant for anarchy. Feral screams on a stage. But it’s really an attitude.
Every age has its rigid rules. Be the wife. Be the peasant. Be quiet, be grateful, be good. And in every single age there are people who hear the rules and disobey. Who pick up the sword and learn to use it better than the men. Who win wars and refuse to marry. Who face the consequences for challenging the patriarchy.
But the thing is, history isn’t a record of what happened. It’s a record of what the people in charge wrote down. The names that survive are the ones they tried to erase and couldn’t. Every troublemaker who made it into the record made it there because their refusal was loud as hell.
Feral screaming from the page.
The misfits and the heretics and the unrepentant pains in the asses, that’s the real history. The story behind what you already know. The punk that survived.
This is about them.
